Snowmen Christmas Cake

This year I decided to ice my Christmas Cake not in the traditional Red, White and Green colours usually associated with Christmas Cakes.

I started with a blue and lilac colour scheme, and wanted to incorporate Snowmen somewhere in the design so cut out some circles and arranged them around the side.  I gave them different colour hats and scarves and iced some white snow flakes around them.

On the top edge of the cake I put some white royal icing in an icicle design.

I wrote Merry Christmas on the top with 'run out' icing, and added a few sprigs of Holly.  A few sparkly trees and snowballs were arranged on the board, a lilac ribbon completed the cake.

Carpenters Cake

This cake was for my brother who is a Joiner by trade and was celebrating his 50th Birthday.  I made a rich fruit cake, fed with Brandy which is his favourite.

Its covered with almond paste and then white sugarpaste which I airbrushed slightly around the sides and made wooden planks from Squires Kitchen modelling paste, graining each one and then airbrushing to give a wooden effect.  These are then decorated with grey sugarpaste nail heads.  I made various tools for the top, and a pencil and nails which I scattered on the board.

To finish I made a rough edged wooden plaque which I fixed in place with one of the sugarpaste nails.

Princess Castle Cake

This is a Princess Castle Cake made up of two tiers of sponge cake stacked with additional sponge pillars which I topped with white and blue modelling paste turrets, a rambling rose decorated the rear of the cake. The prince and princess are made from modelling paste and I stood the prince at the entrance to the castle with a rose for his princess.  The carriage is made up of layers of sponge covered in white sugar paste with gum paste wheels decorated with small flowers.  Then the horses are attached to the carriage with pink ribbon.

I covered the board with green sugarpaste and made a cobbled road for the carriage and horses to sit on, then completed the look with pebbles, flowers and tiny grey mice.  Finally the castle was topped with a flag and the number three, for Kiana's third birthday.

Mickey's Choo Choo Express

This was a very special 2nd birthday cake for little Evie and her friends, based on the Mickey's Choo Choo Express Disney cartoon.

The two tier chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream was decorated with handmade sugarpaste characters and pretty flowers, all in bright primary colours.

A fun cake for boys or girls.

Fancy French Macaroons

French-style macaroons make a lovely gift or centrepiece for a summer garden party.

Small, dainty and in delightful pastel colours, they are light and sweet with an almondy taste.

We filled them with fruit flavoured buttercream, for an extra treat.

Raspberry Summer Cupcakes

These pretty little cupcakes are vanilla sponge cakes topped with a raspberry frosting.  The pink colour comes from the raspberries, no food colouring was added.  They are decorated with a sprinkling of raspberry powder, to give a boost to the flavour and topped with two pretty flowers.

Easter Teatime Treat

A Traditional Easter Simnel Cake.  This is a moist light fruit cake baked with natural marzipan in the middle between the two layers, which gives it a rich almond flavour.  It's then topped with another layer of almond paste and eleven balls, which are then slightly toasted.  Decorate with a pretty ribbon and sever as an Easter teatime treat.

Happy Easter

Easter has arrived, but rather than a boring old chocolate egg we're celebrating with some rather lovely springtime cupcakes. These are flavoured with delicious passionfruit icing, (made from real passionfruit) atop a light sponge.
